Digital Fairy Tales: “Dark Nights and Black Cats” and Digital Fairy Tales: “The Sun and the Moon”
Presented by Leo Kuelbs Collection
The Digital Fairy Tales series uses old tales and themes as an initial context from which to consider our common humanity from current digital realities and perspectives, through time, backwards and forwards. As we move further towards a “singularity” between AI and the terrestrial, the Digital Fairy Tales series seeks to remind us to not forget our shared histories and what it means to be a quality human being as we evolve towards the unknown.
For Regensburg International Film Festival, two collections of Fairy Tales inspired by stories collected by Franz Xaver von Schoenwerth, and archived in Regensburg Germany, under the care of Erika Eichenseer will be shown. The first is a new selection, titled “Digital Fairy Tales: Dark Nights and Black Cats.” This selection features adaptions of scarier tales including weird cats, supernatural happenings and dark forests. The second selection, “Sun and Moon Expanded,” presents a selection of tales starring our celestial father and mother. Curated by Leo Kuelbs and Sandra Ratkovic.

Digital Fairy Tales: Dark Nights and Black Cats is a new selection of dark tales taken from the Franz Xaver von Schoenwerth archive in Regensburg, Germany. Black cats dance as the doctors’ guts are exposed, frozen stockings thaw and death gets a new jacket of shadow, courtesy of the sun. Digital Fairy Tales: “Dark Nights and Black Cats” connects those who created the stories all those many years ago with a diverse selection of artists in our digital present. Collected in the early 19th century, these dark and twisted tales are perfect for a chilly winter’s eve.
